Common questions

How is the SIP value calculated?

Each monthly instalment grows at the expected annual return, compounded monthly, from the month it is invested. The total is the sum of all instalments with their growth. This is the same method most fund houses use in their calculators.

What return should I assume?

Returns are never guaranteed. Many people use 10 to 12% for diversified equity funds over long periods and 6 to 7% for debt funds, but actual returns can be lower, or negative in some years.

What is a step-up SIP?

You raise your SIP by a fixed percentage every year, usually in line with salary increases. A 10% yearly step-up can add a large amount to the final value over 15 to 20 years.

Does this include tax?

No. The value is before tax on capital gains and before exit loads. Check the current capital gains rules for your fund type.
